Portuguese neurosurgery is in mourning!
Dr. José Francisco Forjaz de Freitas Ribeiro, a renowned neurosurgeon and founder of the Neurosurgery Service at Coimbra University Hospitals in the 70s, passed away today in Coimbra.
Ironically, he died in the Neurology Department where he began his work in Coimbra, before the independent Neurosurgery Department was created, of a cerebral hemorrhage.
